Davao Light increases capacity of Tagum Substation to power additional 4,500 households
Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. (Davao Light), an AboitizPower subsidiary, is moving forward with a major grid modernization project in Davao del Norte, starting with a key capacity boost at the Canocotan Substation.
The Canocotan facility has officially upgraded its capacity from 20 MVA to 25 MVA. This addition allows the network to reliably power up to 4,500 additional households while supporting the city’s rapid commercial growth.
Beyond expanding overall capacity, this upgrade eases strain on existing infrastructure, drastically improving voltage stability and reduce energy fluctuations for existing customers.
Substations serve as the essential link between high-voltage transmission lines and local communities, stepping down voltage to safe, usable levels for homes and businesses.
Building on this momentum, Davao Light is preparing for additional improvements across the province throughout 2026. The company has identified the Apokon, Asuncion, and Mirafuentes substations for capacity upgrades within the year.
“Our primary goal is to deliver reliable and secure power that matches the growth of Davao del Norte," said Engr. Arnel D. Bersabe, Senior Assistant Vice President of Davao Light (North Davao).
These enhancements are part of a broader initiative to strengthen grid infrastructure for residents and businesses across Tagum City, Asuncion, Kapalong, New Corella, Talaingod, and Sawata.
