Davao City’s rapidly developing Lanang district has a new, modern power infrastructure: The Lanang Substation. It is the thirtieth (30th) distribution substation of Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. (Davao Light) and the sixth (6th) fully digital one.
Lanang is a rapidly developing district along Davao Gulf. With its coastal ambiance, modern infrastructure, and urban conveniences such as healthcare facilities, commercial centers, and residential areas, the area inevitably attracts more businesses and residents.
Moreover, with the upcoming 11-hectare mixed-use development, Davao Park District, Davao Light foresaw the burgeoning power demand in the area. “Years prior, we saw the need to build a substation in Lanang to cater to the diverse needs of its urban residents and the flourishing business community in the area,” said Davao Light President and Chief Operating Officer Enriczar Tia.
A substation serves as a gateway to Davao Light’s distribution network. It maintains stability and reliability in the power system and ensures that the power flow is safe and suitable for end-users.
“The 50MVA Lanang Substation serves the existing residents and businesses in the area and will accommodate future load applications. It contributes to the overall economic growth and development of Davao,” added Tia.

Energized and recently inaugurated, the Lanang Substation can serve up to 50,000 households. It features digital technology, allowing more efficient monitoring and control of power distribution. Digitizing substations is crucial for meeting the growing power demands of customers as it improves power reliability and allows faster response times, especially during unscheduled outages.
It is a green facility similar to Davao Light’s Gredu Substation in Panabo, Davao del Norte. It features a rainwater harvesting system for maintenance and utilizes solar power for operations, promoting sustainability and self-sufficiency. This reinforces Davao Light‘s aim to harness green technology and renewable energy in its operations.
“We continue empowering the communities we serve by investing in modern power infrastructure such as building digital substations,” said Tia. “In the case of Lanang, we further drive its growth and development by ensuring that power is available, reliable, and safe. In this way, businesses thrive and residents live comfortably.”
Davao Light, an AboitizPower subsidiary, aims to empower and add value to the communities it serves by providing tools, services, and keys to efficiency and well-being, which will bring about development in its franchise area, which covers the cities of Davao and Panabo, and the municipalities of Carmen, Dujali, and Sto. Tomas.
