Power on Wheels: Davao Light deploys Mobile Transformer to ensure reliable electricity in Davao del Norte
To ensure reliable electricity across Davao del Norte, Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. (Davao Light), an AboitizPower subsidiary, delivered a high-capacity mobile transformer to the Apokon Substation in Tagum City on August 25, 2026.
This mobile transformer serves as a portable backup power source designed to step in whenever primary substation equipment requires servicing or repairs.
Essentially a substation on wheels, the heavy-duty unit was acquired from Belgium and packs a 33 MVA capacity. This gives it enough electrical output to temporarily supply energy to approximately 30,000 residential homes or up to 5 to 7 major commercial shopping malls.
"The mobile transformer serves as a vital safety net for our community and ensures grid stability by serving as a back-up high-capacity unit during emergencies," said Engr. Arnel D. Bersabe, Senior Assistant Vice President of Davao Light (North Davao).
Through proactive investments in portable contingency infrastructure, Davao Light strengthens its readiness to minimize disruptions in Davao del Norte, even when primary equipment goes down.
