Davao Light Overall Residential Rate up by P0.33/kWh for March-April Billing

Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. (Davao Light) bares a slight uptick in the overall rate for March-April 2026 billing due to an increase in the generation charge.

The overall residential electricity rate is now P10.63 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), reflecting a P0.33/kWh increase from February’s rate of P10.30/kWh. The adjustment is primarily due to higher power supply prices from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), where Davao Light sources part of its power requirement.

In effect, customers consuming 200kWh will see an increase of P65.40 in their bills received from March 12 to April 11 compared to their previous bill.

In addition, the Uniform Lifeline Subsidy rate of P0.01/kWh is implemented this March 2026 pursuant to the ERC Resolution No. 2, Series of 2026. This fixed monthly rate is charged to customers who are not enrolled in the Lifeline Subsidy program and to those enrolled in the program whose consumption exceeds the 100kWh threshold.

Moreover, the under-recovery rates, which are reflected as additional charges on bills, take effect starting the February-March billing period, in accordance with ERC Resolution No. 14, Series of 2022. Under- and over-recoveries inherent to power distribution utilities (DUs) result from timing differences between when power suppliers bill DUs and when DUs, in turn, bill customers. Under-recovery rate payments are designed to allow power DUs, such as Davao Light, to recover costs that were under-collected in previous billing periods.

Fermin Edillon, Davao Light Reputation Enhancement Department Head, said, "With ongoing tensions in the Middle East pushing global fuel prices higher, electricity costs may be affected. Any impact will likely be reflected in the next billing cycles, when power suppliers charge for the current supply of electricity."

Davao Light encourages customers to continue managing their power consumption efficiently to mitigate the impact of the rate increase.

A subsidiary of Aboitiz Power Corporation, Davao Light aims to provide its customers with a front-seat vantage point regarding its services, including the sourcing and pricing of its electricity. This aligns with the company’s mission of delivering safe and reliable electric service at the most reasonable cost to the people and businesses it serves.
