Davao City LGU, Davao Light, and project partners complete the San Pedro Street Underground Cabling Project

The Local Government of Davao City with Davao Light and Power Co. Inc. and project partners from telecommunications, cable, and internet companies will hold today, March 2, a Switch-On Ceremony at San Pedro Street that marks the completion of the second phase of the Underground Cabling Project. The activity aims to highlight the project’s significance to the City during the celebration of the 86th Araw Ng Dabaw.

The project covers 0.6 kilometers of San Pedro Street from City Hall Drive up to cor. Quirino Avenue, and is the second of five (5) phases under the City Ordinance No. 0152-17, Series of 2017. The ordinance requires all telecommunication companies, Davao Light, and all other persons involved to convert overhead lines to an underground system. The project hopes to make the city visually appealing with safer main city roads.

Davao Light started its underground cabling works at San Pedro Street in March 2021 and completed the project with the removal of its lines and 50 poles on February 19, 2023, which is days ahead of its March 2023 target completion.

One of the long-term impacts of underground cabling is the lesser incidence of emergency power interruptions since electric wires are now placed underground. This is an effort to improve customer service and strengthen the resiliency and reliability of Davao Light’s power distribution network.

The project is completed with the collaboration of the following: Davao City Mayor's Office, City Administration Office, City Engineer's Office, City Transport and Traffic Management Office, Public Safety and Security Command Center, Department of Public Works and Highways XI, Davao Light, Davao City Water District, PLDT SMART, Globe Telecom, Dctech Micro Services Incorporated, Sky Cable Corporation, Converge ICT Solutions Inc., Dito Telecommunity, and all the contractors, and the people and businesses along San Pedro Street.
