Turtle Panabo, a critically endangered Hawksbill Turtle, was released to the sea from the Aboitiz Cleanergy Park where it underwent rehabilitation and monitoring after it was rescued from being kept as a pet for around 16 years. The pawikan was turned over to the Park in July 2019 by DENR-Community Environment and Natural Resources of Panabo City, hence the name. It was reportedly smuggled to Panabo City from Surigao City when the pawikan was still a hatchling. With the goal to release it to the sea,

the pawikan was nursed back to health in the Park. Regional Executive Director Bagani Fidel Evasco of DENR XI together with Davao Light President and COO, Rodger Velasco led the release of Turtle Panabo last April 23. The Park, managed by AboitizPower subsidiary, Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. is identified as a Pawikan Rescue Center Facility of Davao City by means of the Memorandum of Agreement signed in 2019 by the City Government of Davao, DENR XI, Aboitiz Foundation and Davao Light. The company commits to care for the Park which is home to migratory birds and various species of mangroves, as well as a nesting ground of sea turtles.
