Davao Light explains power interruption affecting major part of Davao City yesterday, August 13

Customers of Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. in the major part of Davao City experienced an unscheduled power interruption yesterday, August 13, 2018.

The power interruption, which started at 10:08 a.m. was caused by the trip off of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines’ (NGCP) Davao-Bajada 138kV line affecting Davao Light’s ERA Substation. Based on the advice from the NGCP, its foot patrol reported that an unidentified person cut a coconut tree and its leaves hit the transmission line structure triggering the outage.

Specific areas affected by the power interruption were the entire downtown area going to Buhangin including Cabantian, Indangan, and portion of Lanang.

To mitigate the impact of the problem, loads in the affected substation were temporarily transferred to nearby lines. At 11:49 a.m., ERA Substation was energized. The Davao Light systems operations engineers then conducted normalization or return of load back to the said substation, which resulted to a short service disruption in the affected areas. Normalization was completed at 12:33 p.m..

Davao Light deeply apologizes for the inconvenience brought about by this power interruption, which was beyond its control.
