Davao Light nurtures public schools through Brigada Eskwela

It is the fresh start of school year once again, but before students formally went back to their second home to learn, a week-long school maintenance project called Brigada Eskwela took place where volunteers worked together to enhance the schools. Armed with passion to serve the community, a total of 303 employees of Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. volunteered to repaint and repair classrooms of our beloved public schools.

Magallanes Elementary School in Davao City had a total of 20 classrooms that were repaired and repainted by the employee volunteers last June 2. Hand in hand with the school personnel, students and parents, the school’s armchairs, ceilings, blackboards, doors and windows received a well-deserved glow-up.

For Davao del Norte, Tubod National High School had 5 classroom improvements as well as the refurbishment of Electrical Laboratory and the provision of Electrical Tools last May 29. This is the company’s support to DepEd's K-12 curriculum especially for students who will take up the Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) course. “Makaingon dyud ko [I can really say] that we are so blessed to have our partner, Davao Light and Power Company and Aboitiz Foundation, who has that concern for our community kay kana ang angay nato pasalamatan [because that deserves our thanks]” says Mayor Virgie J. Perandos of the Municipality of Carmen.

A talk dubbed as Kuryentalks was also conducted to the educators, parents and students. It discussed about electrical safety awareness, services extended by Davao Light as well as energy conservation tips followed by an open forum where the audience can raise their concerns. DepEd Superintendent Dr. Josephine Fadul states, “Nganong malipayon ko [The reason why I’m happy] is because of everyone’s presence here today to listen and to help. Sa amo sa DepEd [For us in DepEd], thank you so much for the support, from the LGU to Davao Light. I am happy also to see the support from everyone who gathered with interest and helped us this Brigada Eskwela”
