Residents of Brgy. 76-A graduate in Davao Light's Project B.E.S.T.

Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. welcomed 17 new certified electricians from Brgy. 76-A, Davao City after completing the Project Basic Electrician Skills Training or B.E.S.T. of the electric utility.

Davao Light’s Project B.E.S.T., which is in partnership with the Aboitiz Foundation and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) XI, is a community-based training that aims to provide opportunity for beneficiaries especially the out-of-school youth to become TESDA certified electricians and prepare them for livelihood. The project also aims to create a pool of certified electricians in barangays whom they can easily call for their electrical or wiring needs.

In exchange of the free training, all you need to do is to be the best that you can be. That's already enough for us. You prove to the community that you can be the best because we strongly believe in the potential that you all have. Congratulations to all of you and thank you to the Aboitiz Group, TESDA and the barangay for making this happen.” said Congressman Jericho "Koko" Jonas B. Nograles in his speech during the commencement day held at the SIR Phase 1 Covered Court in Brgy. 76-A, Davao City last February 15, 2018.

The graduates received a Certificate of Completion from TESDA and they also received starter kits from Davao Light to help them in their work.

One thing that we are very proud about this project is that this would create opportunities for our fellowmen as this could be their new means of livelihood. This will also meet the increasing demand of skillful electricians brought about by the constant growth of the power industry.” said Engr. Rodger S. Velasco, Davao Light's EVP and COO.

To further prepare the graduates as they start their jobs as electricians, Davao Light's technical and customer services teams also provided orientation and important inputs on its service standards and requirements.

Present during the graduation rites were Brgy. 76-A Barangay Captain Rolando Trajera, PBA Partylist Congressman Jericho Jonas B. Nograles, Barangay Kagawad Allan L. Linao, Davao Light Community Relations Manager Fermin P. Edillon and TESDA's Technical Education Specialist, Junna C. Arnaez.
