The “Tabang Pa-Eskwela sa Tribo” program of the National Commission for Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) - Region XI aims to help empower IP learners through education where they annually provide school supplies and other needed learning materials. Davao Light and Power Co. Inc. and its social development arm, Aboitiz Foundation Inc., are among the supporters of this program and this year donated bags with school supplies for the indigenous students of Davao City.

The said program started in 2015 and has now helped over 8,000 indigenous students, particularly those who are from the seven geographically isolated public elementary schools in the economically less-privileged communities of Davao City.

This year’s donation will be distributed to the Ata, Bagobo Klata, Bagobo Tagabawa, Matigsalog, and Obo Manobo children in Toril, Tugbok, and Paquibato Districts. The program aims to help and motivate indigenous students to go to school and appreciate the value of education to achieve their dreams and ambitions in life.

“We prioritize those students in far-flung areas who need the most help,” Provincial Officer, Liza Marie F. Castillo, said. Aside from the educational assistance programs they provide for college students, the agency also solicits donations from their partner agencies to support students in elementary and high school.

Davao Light, an AboitizPower subsidiary, continues to support programs that are in line with the United Nation’s fourth sustainable development goal, which is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
