When you feel like freezing in a room and start looking for a jacket, then the air conditioning unit’s thermostat is set to keep the room cooler than what you need.  With a very cold room you might just catch colds.

The colder it gets, the more energy is consumed; and you would probably get colder once you receive a huge electric bill.

If you have computers, an appropriate ambient temperature would be crucial to the units to function efficiently and for them to have longer operational life span. At the same time it is also practical on your budget.

With the power crisis that hit Mindanao of late, Davao Light and Power Company urges its customers to be more prudent in the use of electricity and offers the following tips on how to efficiently use their airconditioners: Begin with selecting the proper size (cooling capacity) of your room air conditioner.  Locate your air-conditioner in the coolest side of the room or away from the morning and afternoon sun.  Do not set the thermostat at a cooler setting than normal when turning on the air conditioner.  It will not cool faster.  It will just cool at a lower temperature that you need.  Check the doors and windows of the room for leaks.  Drape windows with curtains, blinds, and shades to prevent sunlight from penetrating into the room. Check filters at least once a month. When filters are dirty, the fan has to run longer to move the air and this consumes more electricity.  Avoid placing any electrical appliances that will generate heat in the room.  Turn off the air conditioners when leaving or when not needed.
